Hating white people for their white privilege was the progressive racism of 2015. It was a glorious time and the left cheered as racist mobs of #BlackLivesMatter supporters terrorized diners and shoppers in “white spaces” of privilege to avenge the latest drug dealer killed while attacking police officers.
But intersectional racism couldn’t rest on its laurels by screaming at six-year-olds at Christmas tree lightings or intimidating white couples having brunch for the crime of being the wrong skin color.
In 2016, intersectionality continues the fight for a more tolerant country by exposing the white privilege of the interracial. The first target was Zoe Saldana, a black actress with Dominican, Haitian and Puerto Rican roots, who was accused of “blackface” for playing Nina Simone without the requisite racial purity. A petition condemns having “light-complexioned actors” playing “the roles of dark-complexioned historical figures”. Saldana was accused of having a “Eurocentric” face that meets “European standards of beauty”, instead of an “Afrocentric” face. She was told to check her “light-skinned black woman privilege”.
Yes, black people can also have white privilege as long as their skin isn’t the right shade of black and their features aren’t “Afrocentric” enough. Intersectionality is just legitimized racism. And racism is a pathological obsession with racial purity that can never stop on its own. The reverse version of the one drop rule is that even one drop of “white blood” is enough to transmit the disease of “white privilege”.

We gave our own women a choice.
We have the rest of the world a choice.
They chose poorly.
The experiment failed.
We can morally abandon hope.
We can return to evidence.
We can exchange but not convert.
We can cooperate but not advance.
We can use high trust internally but pragmatism with others.
We can act morally but not optimistically.
Elites are naturally less racist, less ethnocentric, more cosmopolitan, than the lower classes. Elites can interact with *other* elites as peers. They don’t have to squabble over pieces of pie because they can make pie.
But the lower classes are justifiably racist, nationalistic, xenophobic, because they are in direct competition over resources they don’t create, infrastructure, services, social spending, jobs, and so on and so forth. Additionally, the higher impulsivity of the lower classes increases the friction that arise from differences and proximity. And they can’t afford to isolate themselves from these.
The classes can cooperate on common interests. And elites can cooperate with foreign elites. But in order for both of these things to happen, elites must give up treason as a sacred value, or they must be destroyed.
A people are less without their elites. But elites are nothing without their people.
I didn’t start out racist, sexist, antisemitic, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic or any of that.
I was just an easy going libertarian who wanted to live and let live.
But at a certain point, I could no longer deny that I was under constant, relentless, systematic and deliberate assault, on every dimension (moral, ideological, political, demographic, cultural, physical, economic…) because of my race, because of gender, because of my sexual orientation, because of my nationality, because of my ethnicity, because of my regional culture, because of what religion I wasn’t, and so on and so forth.
And being as these don’t seem likely to stop, I had to look around, for others who might stand with me against this encroaching tide of darkness. And those others are racist, sexist, antisemitic, bigoted, straight, white, men (and a few others who only check *most* of those boxes.)
You drew the battle lines. I only chose my side.
This is what so many of my friends are missing.
You cannot open your society to tribal people and treat them as equals, when they remain tribal and hostile to you. We cannot broadcast universalism unless it is reciprocal.
Every month there’s a story about some naive liberal approaching being assaulted or murdered after approaching violent people with an open heart and charitable spirit.
