Bombing Yemen
My title for this story would be: Nobel Peace Laureate Obama orders bombing of Yemen. 49 civilians killed, including 17 women and 23 children.
Following a military operation in Yemen targeting suspected al Qa’eda militants, a local official said on Sunday that 49 civilians, among them 23 children and 17 women, were killed in air strikes which he said were carried out “indiscriminately,” Agence France Presse reported.
Earlier it had been reported by ABC News that on orders from the US President Barack Obama, the US military had launched cruise missiles in the attacks.
The National said that thousands of people took to the streets of southern Yemen on Saturday to denounce the military action and ensuing deaths of innocent civilians.

US Announces Military Base in Romania to Become “Permanent”
In an announcement today which likely surprised no one, the US army announced that the military base just northwest of the Black Sea Port City of Constanta, Romania will become a “permanent” base for the American military.
The announcement of a permanent American presence in the former Warsaw Pact and current NATO member nation will likely underscore a growing US presence in Eastern Europe.

Pentagon currently owns or rents 702 overseas bases in about 130 countries and HAS another 6,000 bases in the United States and its territories. There are about 190 countries in the world. We will not be the first empire to have collapsed after overextending itself. It’ll happen to the fervent cries of “SECURITY! SECURITY! SECURITY!” coming from our Television pundits.
Southern Avenger: Obama’s Nobel Police Prize and conflicting “conservatives”
On the Military Industrial Complex

Chalmers Johnson makes a great point in the interview below. The annual trillion reflected in the pie chart is only part of our military and security related expenditures. For example, our Nuclear Weapons program is in the Dept. of Energy, not defense. Our wounded are treated and cared for by the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. The massive foreign military aid we provide to other countries comes from the State Department’s budget, and the protecting of this country – since our Dept. of Defense is actually our Dept. of Offense – is conducted by the Dept. of Homeland Security.
It’s also important to see through the illusion that military creates jobs. It does not. Every dollar spend on military things represents a dollar taken away from the real economy which produces goods and services that people voluntarily purchase. The public (coercive) sector of the economy feeds off the private (voluntary) sector.
