  1. i actually think, for the most part, the response from the (us) govt and most people has been pretty nonhysterical and tempered. the most hysterical reactions ive seen are from the media and medical conspiracy theorists. the thing about the homeland security briefing is that people will speculate about it if they dont at least say ‘its not bioterrorism’, so better that they just make announcements. our govt has taken basically no major steps to do anything but track whats going… which seems pretty reasonable until they figure out what about it has made it so fatal in mexico.

  2. Government is like a mother poisoning her child’s milk, then feeding it all the more to nurse it back to health.

  3. oh, shhh. despite the raising the pandemic level, i still havent seen any coercive actions taken, and the fact that no one is even pretending that this can be contained is a good sign that no serious isolation or quarantine procedures are going to be undertaken – the only way I can see that changing is if it suddenly become as deadly everywhere else as it has been in mexico.
if one wants to gripe at the govt’s response to this, the best thing to question is, as always, the pumping of huge amounts of money into vaccine stockpiles, which is often a giant waste of money due to strain mismatches and expiration of stocks.

  4. sorry, but i cant help but be a little bit happy that for the first time in ages, govt is actually responding to a public health in a way that isnt completely out of step with the data and public health guidelines.
