Citizens Sue for Fair Elections

Plaintiffs maintain that current election practices, including the widespread use of computerized voting machines, are unconstitutional because they are ripe for fraud and error and effectively hide the physical vote counting process from the public, effectively denying citizens their legally protected Right to cast an effective vote. The lawsuit seeks an Order from the Court prohibiting the use of all voting machines and to force election officials to instead use paper ballots and to count and total all votes by hand, always in full view of the public. 1. I just went with three other NC people this morning to serve the Governor, Attorney General, and a member of the North Carolina State Board of Elections in Raleigh with the papers for this lawsuit. It was an interesting experience, to say the least. The particular State Board of Elections member we served is an attorney with offices in downtown Raleigh and she refused to take the papers, but we served them anyway. The Governor’s office and Attorney General were more accepting, but it seems that that’s because they get served with lawsuits all the time and are quite used to the process. :)
