How to stand up to a suspicionless border patrol checkpoint (and win)

Let it not be said America is a nation of sheep. This man is a wolf.

I sympathize with the BP agent who appeals to the driver at 13:00, but his reasoning is a complete catch-22: Anyone who surrenders their rights and subjects themselves to a search is non-suspicious. Anyone to refuses to surrender their rights is suspicious and must be searched.

FBI nudges state ‘fusion centers’ into the shadows

April, 2008

“The FBI is pressuring states to become more secretive and limit even routine oversight of the bureau’s data-sharing arrangements with local police, a new document shows. . . . The memorandum, obtained by the Electronic Privacy Information Center and released on Friday, says that any ‘disclosure’ to Congress of information shared with the Fusion Center can happen only ‘after consultation with the FBI.’ . . .

It also says that requests from media organizations even for non-classified material made under Virginia’s open government laws will be referred to the FBI and then strongly opposed.

It also indicates that the FBI is responsible for a Virginia state bill called HB1007 — introduced two days after the FBI signed the memorandum on January 6 — that would exempt the Fusion Center from open government laws.” (Read more from news.cnet.com)

Obama declares copyright treaty a state secret

“President Obama’s White House has tightened the cloak of government secrecy still further, saying in a letter this week that a discussion draft of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement and related materials are ‘classified in the interest of national security pursuant to Executive Order 12958.’

Excuse me? A copyright agreement is a matter of ‘national security’? By what possible stretch of the imagination can only 10 pages of the 806-page treaty be free for citizens to read? Will the Defense Department be prosecuting copyright cases now?” (Read more from wendymcelroy.com)

Yes we can!

Don’t Eat Burgers, or else PLANET EARTH WILL DIE!

Occasionally, an AdSense advertisement (see sidebar) shows up which is completely contrary to this website. I’m banning them, one by one. That’s where I found letsactnow.org.

I’ll admit, they are acting rationally for people who believe the end of the world is nigh, but the shrill cries against hamburgers terrify me. Bad science always results in bad public policy, and good science usually results in bad public policy.

From their website:

Although upgrading appliances at home, installing solar panels on the roof, and switching to a hybrid car will surely reduce our contribution to global warming, not all of us are able to do that right away. So, what can we do? Wait for politicians to pass laws to save the planet? Hope that someone else will take care of the problem? Isn’t there something we can all do now to make a BIG difference?

“YES WE CAN! ACT NOW. TODAY”

Which do you think is more responsible for global warming: a gas-guzzling SUV, or a hamburger?

Surprise! It’s the burger! Hard to believe? A United Nations report demonstrated that raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars, trucks, SUVs, trains, planes and ships in the world combined. How much more? An impressive 40% more.

Hmmm. “Wait for politicians to pass laws to save the planet?” Between the appeal to government as the solver of problems, and their fear of hamburgers, I would expect complete fascism should these people ever gain power.

Pollution is best handled as a tort.

Here’s their sensationalist video:

“Your diet has a direct effect on the environment, on wildlife, on people, on water, on the weather, and on the overall health of planet Earth . . . and every time you masturbate, God kills a kitten.”

Obama admin. seeks powers to shut firms like AIG

“WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Obama administration on Tuesday mounted a full-scale push for government authority to shut down troubled institutions like insurer AIG to avoid the need for future bailouts.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, testifying before lawmakers still fuming about big bonuses for executives at bailout recipient AIG, called on Congress for new powers to take over big non-bank financial firms that run amok.” (Read more from news.yahoo.com)

First government gives itself the power to redistribute our money to AIG (despite the Constitution). Now they want to give themselves the power to shut down a private company.

WTF!?!?!?!!?!?

If the assholes in government would have simply done NOTHING, then AIG would be shut down – probably by a bankruptcy court. The net effect would be identical, but we’d have more of our money, and governments would have no new powers.

Coming soon: Mandatory National Service in the U.S.S.A.

“The House passed a bill yesterday which includes disturbing language indicating young people will be forced to undertake mandatory national service programs as fears about President Barack Obama’s promised ‘civilian national security force’ intensify.

The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, known as the GIVE Act, was passed yesterday by a 321-105 margin and now goes to the Senate.

Under section 6104 of the bill, entitled ‘Duties,’ in subsection B6, the legislation states that a commission will be set up to investigate, ‘Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.’

Section 120 of the bill also discusses the ‘Youth Engagement Zone Program’ and states that ‘service learning’ will be ‘a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.'” (Read more from infowars.com)

Also, see Sen. Jim DeMint’s (R-S.C.) thoughtful critique of bill. He addresses chartiy, America, Civil Society, the Constitution, the budget, the the tendency toward misdirected altruism by the government.

Stossel – The FEDERAL war against Charles Lynch

Charles Lynch ran a medical marijuana clinic in California after it his state and community legalized it. The sheriff tried and failed to bust him for non-prescription sales, so he went the Feds. The Feds didn’t care about state or local laws. Charles Lynch now face 100 years in prison. He will be sentenced on March 23rd. See Friends of Charles Lynch.

Sen. Kerry, Sen. Edwards, and President Obama all admitted to using pot. The feds are bunch of opportunistic cowards who pick on people unable to fight back.

Hersh: ‘Executive assassination ring’ reported directly to Cheney

Tyranny requires a secret, unaccountable police force. Perhaps that’s why John F. Kennedy said “[I will] smash the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter them to the wind.”

Seymour Hersh is a hero to me. He’s been fearless in exposing government lies about war, foreign policy and liberty.

“Investigative reporter Seymour Hersh dropped a bombshell on Tuesday when he told an audience at the University of Minnesota that the military was running an ‘executive assassination ring’ throughout the Bush years which reported directly to former Vice President Dick Cheney.

The remark came out seemingly inadvertently when Hersh was asked by the moderator of a public discussion of ‘America’s Constitutional Crisis’ whether abuses of executive power, like those which occurred under Richard Nixon, continue to this day.

Hersh replied, ‘After 9/11, I haven’t written about this yet, but the Central Intelligence Agency was very deeply involved in domestic activities against people they thought to be enemies of the state. Without any legal authority for it. They haven’t been called on it yet.’

Hersh then went on to describe a second area of extra-legal operations: the Joint Special Operations Command. ‘It is a special wing of our special operations community that is set up independently,’ he explained. ‘They do not report to anybody, except in the Bush-Cheney days, they reported directly to the Cheney office. … Congress has no oversight of it.’

‘It’s an executive assassination ring essentially, and it’s been going on and on and on,’ Hersh stated. ‘Under President Bush’s authority, they’ve been going into countries, not talking to the ambassador or the CIA station chief, and finding people on a list and executing them and leaving. That’s been going on, in the name of all of us.'” (Read more from rawstory.com)

Obama Administration Defying Judiciary

Hmmm. A lot like there predecessors. Why is this so hard for every to see? Obama = more of the same.

“So on Friday, in a move that Al-Haramain’s lawyer called ‘mind-boggling’, the Obama administration told the federal court, once again, that it did not have the authority to order the government to make the critical document in the case available to the organization’s lawyers. The decision to reveal the document, wrote the government, ‘is committed to the discretion of the Executive Branch, and is not subject to judicial review.’ . . . In other words, the government lawyers threatened to physically remove the document from the court files if the Judge insists that he has the right — as he already ruled he has — to allow Al-Haramain’s lawyers to see it.” (Read more from washingtonindependent.com)

Criminalizing Organic Farming

“The bills would require such a burdensome complexity of rules, inspections, licensing, fees, and penalties for each farmer who wishes to sell locally – a fruit stand, at a farmers market – no one could manage it. And THAT is the point.” (Read more from godlikeproductions.com)

Open your eyes, my socialist-leaning friends. Government is the problem. Liberty is the solution. Government is not the thin red line defending us from greedy monopolies. Government is the creator and enforcer of monopolies. More regulation and government aren’t the solution, they are the problem.

“The ‘food safety’ bills in Congress were written by Monsanto, Cargill, Tysons, ADM, etc. All are associated with the opposite of food safety. What is this all about then?

In the simplest terms, organic food and a rebirth of farming were winning. Not in absolute numbers but in a deep and growing shift by the public toward understanding the connection between their food and their health, between good food and true social pleasures, between their own involvement in food and the improvement in their lives in general, between local food and a burgeoning local economy.

Slow Food was right – limit your food to what comes from your region and from real farmers, and slow down to cook it and linger over it with friends and family, and the world begins to change for the better.

And as we face an unprecedented economic crisis, and it is hard to be sure what has value, one thing that always does is food. Which is why the corporations are after absolute control over it. But what obstacles to a complete lock on food do they face? All the people in this country who are ‘banking’ on organic farming and urban gardens and most of all, everyone’s deepening pleasure in and increasing involvement with everything about food.

Farmers markets. Local farmers. Real milk. Fresh eggs. Vegetable stands.

Those are things we not only all want, but things we are actively getting involved in, and things we very much need. And where they are truly good, they are growing.

The international financial corporations which have wreaked havoc around the world with astounding nonsensical ‘solutions’ that are destructive of everyone but them, are brothers to the international agribusiness giants (Monsanto, Cargill, Tysons, ADM, etc.) which are just as aggressively after their own form of ‘taking.’ Just seeds, animals, water, land.” (opednews.com)
