Predictions for 2012

1) Starting tonight, Ron Paul will begin winning caucuses. This will be followed by either an assassination, or, in the long term, prosperity. Remember, they killed Bobby Kennedy after he began winning primaries. The chances of this are probably small. I do think there are powerful people and institution who would consider it.

If Ron Paul is assassinated, it’ll be followed by isolated instances of violence against federal institutions. These will be used to discredit anything libertarian. Government will declare new powers for itself, and the gigantic anti-terrorism apparatus will turn its full attention to Americans. An assassination would also be followed by large scale tax protests which would cripple the state. They will resort to printing money and slander tax protesters as domestic terrorists.

If, on the other hand, Ron Paul wins the primary, he will defeat Obama. Democrats will defect en masse to support him. The media mud slingers will realize their impotence. The markets will celebrate, perhaps with the exception of large commercial banks. They will threaten to blow-up the economy as revenge upon a public that elected Ron Paul. We will call their bluff.

2) At least one country will leave the Euro Zone. The EU will remain intact, but calls to end it will grow louder and more insistent. The turmoil in Europe will continue to create the illusion of economic stability in the U.S. and capital will flow away from the headlines, but once things have stabilized there, expect the much bigger and much more destructive problems of the U.S. to resume their unfolding. The prices of precious metals will resume their climb. Let’s hope Ron Paul is in power so the crisis isn’t used to lead us further down the road to serfdom.

3) SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act, a thinly veiled attempt to censor the internet will fail. However, it’s proponents will very quickly put another piece of legislation on the table. They will not stop until it is passed.

4) A massive troop reduction will occur in Afghanistan. It will be done for political reasons. The media will spend weeks praising Obama.

5) A galvanizing incident will be provoked or staged in Iran. There will be an outbreak of hostility, but the United States, despite the propaganda from neo-con politicians and the media will not fully commit to a war.

New Year’s Predictions for 2011

My predictions:

1. We will see the beginning of the collapse of the bond market. The truth about flawed fiat currencies will begin to emerge. No one will want government debt. The specter of the choice between government default and hyper inflation will haunt us all.

2. In response to a great, violent threat, President Obama will appear on television and make a heroic speech about security, the American way of life, and preserving our liberty. Despite its design, the speech will not salvage his popularity.

3. Ron Paul will be accused of racism, nazi-ism, and/or homophobia. As Ron Paul popularity grows, and as his long record of accurate predictions becomes increasingly verified by the economic crisis, his message of liberty becomes increasingly threatening to the status quo. Look for slander, followed by more extreme tactics.

4. Governments hate a free press. Look for internet regulation in the U.S. and western Europe. Secret blogging and anonymity services will become increasingly valuable. More scandals will emerge, some directly threatening, incriminating the White House. The Democratic party will attempt to salvage itself by abandoning Obama.

5. Socialist explanations for the economic crisis, which blame greed and private enterprise, will get great exposure on television and in print as government looks for reasons to increase power and taxation to cover its many irresponsible programs. The socialist explanations will gain some support, but the liberty message and the culpability of government will not go away.

6. Faced with plummeting popularity, even in Donetsk, Ukraine’s ruling party, the Party of Regions, will have to chose between failure and tyranny. They will attempt to chose tyranny.

Epic Analysis & Predictions

I envision us looking back at this statement with great sadness. Let it not be said that no one tried to prevent what is about about to happen.

I’m glad I was able to find a transcript of Congressman Ron Paul’s statement. Youtube videos sometimes vanish. I’m storing the transcript here.

Five Predictions for 2010

1. War: President Obama’s popularity will plummet precipitously, causing him to declare partial victory and begin the rhetoric of troop withdrawal. (Yes, the decision will be made for political reasons.) If I’m wrong about 2010, then it’ll certainly happen before the presidential election of 2012.

2. Healthcare: Nullification movements in various states will fail, though they’ll strengthen the organization of the liberty movement in general and embolden widespread discontent.

Now that our overlords have put themselves in charge of our health, politicians will begin to play with their newly created political footballs: should we pay for abortions? should we pay for prayer therapy? lets get those smokers/elderly/fat people.

There will be fiascoes and scandals, similar to what followed the bank bailouts, as the many crooks involved compete for government privilege.

3. Politics: Despite intense propaganda in the media and fund raising by establishment organizations, at least one hardcore fiscal conservative (Schiff and/or Paul) will be elected to the Senate. Many Republicans will jump on the liberty bandwagon causing them to gain ground in both houses of Congress, winning back one of them.

4. Economy: I’ve been surprised by our economy’s resilience thus far. Perhaps 2008/2009 will be remembered like 1930/1931, as recovery years. By the end of 2010, the wheels will begin to fall off this tortured bus. Freedom will be blamed and more government will be proposed.

5. State’s rights: States in the U.S. as well as in Europe will grow increasingly disenchanted with their government’s incompetence and fiscal irresponsibility. Look for issues of union, cession, sovereignty, nullification to gain increased significance.

Five Predictions for 2009

1) The price for an ounce of Gold will again surpass $1000. This time, it’ll stay over $1000.

2) More of the same under Obama:
     -More war. Our presence in Iraq will continue. At best, there’ll be a decrease in troop levels. Troop levels in Afghanistan will increase. We’ll continue to have a military presence in about 130 of the world’s 190 countries. Only national bankruptcy, or the destruction of the dollar will bring the troops home. We may see the beginnings of this, but I don’t predict it’ll happen in 2009.
     -More government. Size and spending will increase under Obama.
     -More invasiveness. Washington will continue domestic spying, harassment, and illegal detention. The patriot act will not be fully revoked. US troops will take on an increased domestic role.
     -More support for the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Despite lip-service, Obama’s administration will continue financing, supporting and excusing the longest military occupation in history.

3) States and municipalities will consider bankruptcy.

4) The retail industry will be ravaged. It’ll never again be as it was.

5) The fault line will deepen between power and liberty. Despite Big Media’s best effort, the left vs. right paradigm will become less relevant. Expect increased tension over taxes, right to protest, right to bear arms, freedom of speech.

1) Corporate Media will believe their own propaganda and be astonished by Ron Paul’s success – starting tomorrow.

This is pretty evident.
