CLASSICAL(HEROIC), LEVANTINE (MAGIAN), FAUSTIAN(SEARCHING) #Curt

Apollonian / Magian / Faustian These are Spengler’s terms for Classical, Arabian and Western civilisations respectively.

Apollonian Civilisation is focused around Ancient Greece and Rome. Spengler saw its world view as being characterised by appreciation for the beauty of the human body, and a preference for the local and the present moment.

Magian Civilisation includes the Jews from about 400BC, early Christians and various Arabian religions up to and including Islam. Its world feeling revolved around the concept of world as cavern, epitomised by the domed Mosque, and a preoccupation with essence. Spengler saw the development of this civilisation as being distorted by a too influential presence of older cultures, the initial vigorous expansionary impulses of Islam being in part a reaction against this.

Faustian Civilisation began in Western Europe around the 10th century and according to Spengler such has been its expansionary power that by the 20th century it was covering the entire earth, with only a few Regions where Islam provides an alternative world view. The world feeling of Faustian civilisation is inspired by the concept of infinitely wide and profound space, the yearning towards distance and infinity.

Truth is a martial virtue.

A warrior depends on his fellows. Honesty breeds trust. Trust breeds loyalty. Loyalty breeds cohesion. And cohesion breeds power and victory. Dishonesty (towards friends) is punished by defeat.

The truth is enough, for a warrior. Just the facts, and – so far as possible – just the necessary ones. Let people form the conclusions for themselves.

The Spartans were notoriously curt, and contemptuous of those who bandied about meaningless words, as a direct result of being perhaps the most martial culture in history.

The west has always been a culture of warriors.

When warriors trade, they can trade honestly, because they’re bred for honesty, and they can demand it in return. If you will not deal honestly with them, they have alternatives. They can simply kill you and take your stuff.

But, on the other hand, when people are weak, they seek advantage in subtlety, and verbalisms, and moralisms.

The martial virtue of the west made us the best traders, and the wealth from trade made us the best warriors. It was a virtuous cycle.

But then we largely gave up violence, and you may observe the results for yourself.

We need an ideology for a heterogeneous polity.

An ideology is a philosophy boiled down to simple, actionable points.

We have a heterogeneous polity and disproportionate crime rates.

I cannot think of a more destructive ideology than the one being
promoted. The ideology of the struggle of cultural classes gives people an excuse and an enemy. Like economic Marxism, Cultural Marxism undermines people’s feeling that they are responsible for their future. It gives them an excuse and an enemy.

I recently listened to a long interview with a prison psychologist who
talked about many black criminals have been “infantilized”. No sense whatsoever that they are responsible for their own actions, that they must control their impulses, that anyone has the right to tell them to not walk in the middle of the street.

We need an ideology that promotes cooperation between groups. I know what wrong looks like — I complain about it frequently of FB. I can guess what right might look like. Three separate ideas:

-Historically the more universalist (western) forms of Christianity have been great at getting people to cooperate. I have a Ghanian friend who has talked about large African tribes half of whom adopt Christianity, and half Islam. The latter become more peaceful and rich, the former more militant and poor.

-Relegating as much as possible to voluntary exchange might be a good philosophy too in which to try to develop an ideology. I don’t think there would be so much racial tension in a monarchy. I’m not suggesting one, but access to political power seems to be a leading cause of interracial violence. If you look at a person’s race, sex, and marital status, you can tell with about 70-80% accuracy how they’ll vote. Married whites & single white men vs everyone else.

The more we do voluntarily and not through political power they less there will be to fight over.

-Voluntary segregation. Everyone can have their own police, their own schools, etc. I think this would be most effective not between groups, but within the black community. They need an aristocracy to emerge. I think of the writing my teacher James McPherson did about the pullman porters. Europeans had the benefits of the Bubonic Plague which wiped out 30-60% of Europe’s population, mostly the underclasses. This, plus other things (the manorial system, the ban on cousin marriage — which was done for entirely Machiavelian reasons but had good consequences) gave Europe a big boost.

““The Frankfurt School, Jewish Lives, and Antisemitism” is in part biographically based, revealing the essence of thinker’s’ hearts and lives while avoiding anecdotal trivia. As the political historian Zvi Rosen has noted,, Max Horkheimer wrote about anti-Semitism starting around the time of his military service in World War I. Previously, school classmates had screamed “Jew!” at Horkheimer, but it was as a soldier, as he remarked in a letter home from 1917, that he was “regarded with spiteful apprehension because I am Jewish.” Citing these and other examples, Jacobs convincingly refutes Martin Jay, an historian of the Frankfurt School who claimed that Horkheimer was guilty of a “facile dismissal of specifically Jewish problems.” To the contrary, the German Jewish sociologist Leo Löwenthal (1900–1993), yet another associate of the Frankfurt School, asserted that “in his thinking, [Horkheimer] was always very conscious of the Jewish heritage.”

“Such clarifications are useful because although professional writings before their exile from Germany were not explicitly about Jewish matters, “Dialectic of Enlightenment” and “The Authoritarian Personality,” also co-authored by Adorno, would be “deeply colored by the desire to elucidate and confront hatred of Jews,” Jacobs reminds us.

“In 1937, in a letter to the German Jewish literary scholar Hans Mayer, Horkheimer claimed that anti-intellectualism “represents sexual envy and resentment of a pleasurable attitude toward life of which one doesn’t feel oneself capable. Hatred of the Jews has always been hatred of thinking, and naturally the Jews themselves are also in large measure animated by this.”

“This foreknowledge continued with personal ruminations by Adorno, born Theodor Ludwig Wiesengrund in Frankfurt to a Catholic mother and Jewish father who had converted to Protestantism. Adorno’s identification as a Jew grew along with European persecution, as noted in a February 1938 letter to Horkheimer. Written the day before Adorno fled Europe for America, the letter predicted that any Jews who stayed in Germany would be “extirpated,” which went against the then-more hopeful attitudes of German Jews.”

How to close the gender pay gap once and for all.

Brilliant article.

After 50,000 years, it seems that we can finally defeat gender inequality!

It seems the great evil of our time, is caused not by discrimination but by the choices people make. The culprits are not all men per say, but the married ones. It is only MARRIED men who seem incentivized to unfairly over-work and over-earn.

So, comrades. The solution is clear. Destroy the married man!

The present is filled with hard work and unwavering dedication! The future is bright and glorious! It is only our past which is dark and unknown!
