Sheldon Adelson Says Obama Should Nuke Iran

open quoteCasino billionaire Sheldon Adelson told a crowd at Yeshiva University in New York on Tuesday that the only proper negotiating tactic with Iran would be fire a nuclear missile at the country and threaten to wipe out the entire population of Tehran, the nation’s capital.

Adelson, the largest donor to the Republican Party and its affiliated groups, made the comments during a panel discussion hosted by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, Wall Street Journal columnist Bret Stephens and Yeshiva University President Richard Joel. Adelson’s remarks were videotaped by Philip Weiss of the news site Mondoweiss:

What are we going to negotiate about? I would say “Listen, you see that desert out there, I want to show you something.” … You pick up your cell phone and you call somewhere in Nebraska and you say, “OK let it go.” And so there’s an atomic weapon, goes over ballistic missiles, the middle of the desert, that doesn’t hurt a soul. Maybe a couple of rattlesnakes, and scorpions, or whatever. Then you say, “See! The next one is in the middle of Tehran. So, we mean business. You want to be wiped out? Go ahead and take a tough position and continue with your nuclear development. You want to be peaceful? Just reverse it all, and we will guarantee you that you can have a nuclear power plant for electricity purposes, energy purposes.”

Ron Paul Speaks at Catholic Event despite Neo-Con Smears

The neocons ran their usual smear campaign against Ron Paul when they discovered he would be speaking at a big Catholic gathering on peace. But it was a belly flop for the warmongers. Of course, he kept his word, gave a magnificent speech, and the libelers fell flat on their faces, as always, as he was cheered again and again.

One of the highpoints for Ron was his talk with the Catholic archbishop of Antioch, who had been a priest in the US for 20 years, and who is a genuine expert on the horrific, neocon-promoted events in Syria. Ron also noted what a sweet, gentle, and loving crowd it was, the opposite of what the neocons claimed. But then, they are virtually always opposite to the truth.

Ron had noted that it not easy to take part in a gathering where the other speakers advocate evil, but nevertheless he had decided to participate in the Republican presidential debates.

New York Times Deletes This Paragraph In Which White House Says AIPAC Is Key To War

Administration officials said the influential pro-Israel lobby group Aipac was already at work pressing for military action against the government of Mr. Assad, fearing that if Syria escapes American retribution for its use of chemical weapons, Iran might be emboldened in the future to attack Israel. In the House, the majority leader, Eric Cantor of Virginia, the only Jewish Republican in Congress, has long worked to challenge Democrats’ traditional base among Jews.

One administration official, who, like others, declined to be identified discussing White House strategy, called Aipac “the 800-pound gorilla in the room,” and said its allies in Congress had to be saying, “If the White House is not capable of enforcing this red line” against the catastrophic use of chemical weapons, “we’re in trouble.”

It was originally in this story. Now it’s gone. Its only remnant is in the Times search engine. If you put in “gorilla,” it points you to this story. But the gorilla ain’t there.

Obviously the White House and/or AIPAC did not want to be caught saying that the reason we are attacking Syria is to show AIPAC, the “800 pound gorilla,” that we are serious about the war the lobby really craves: Iran.

But there it is. Or was.
