Life Magazine, picture of the week, May 1944
During WWII, American culture became indistinguishable from war propaganda. If judged by how much invasiveness they tolerated from their government, the WWII generation was not the greatest, but one of the worst.

Iran ‘halts oil sales to France and Britain’
You? Sanction us? We’ll sanction you!!!
Iran has halted oil sales to British and French companies, the nation’s oil ministry has said.
A spokesman was reported as saying on the ministry’s website that Iran would “sell our oil to new customers”.
European Union member states had earlier agreed to stop importing Iranian crude from 1 July.

No Jail Time for Haditha Murderer
It was the massacre which left 24 unarmed Iraqis dead and cast fresh shame on the American military, already reeling from Abu-Ghraib.
But a military judge yesterday ruled that the final U.S. soldier to face charges over the notorious assault on Haditha will not be jailed.
Instead, Staff Sergeant Frank Wuterich, who led the attack, faces no more than three months in confinement after admitting the least serious of three charges – negligent dereliction of duty.
He had initially been implicated in 19 of the deaths. Among the victims were seven children and a 76-year-old man in a wheelchair. (Read more)
Photographyers face Copyright threat After Shock Legal Ruling
The case, heard at the Patents County Court in London on 12 January, could have serious implications for photographers, according to photographic copyright expert Charles Swan, a lawyer at Swan Turton, who said: ‘His honour Judge Birss QC decided that a photograph of a red London bus against a black and white background of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, with a blank sky, was similar enough to another photograph of the same subject matter to infringe copyright.’ (Read more)
